On the 25th of January 2012, The Southern Co-operative Funeralcare at 1 The Fairway, Lake officially opened the branch and held a dedication ceremony for their Chapel of Rest.

To celebrate the official opening and dedication of the branch at Lake, The Southern Co-operative Funeralcare donated £1,000 to the Playing Fields Association. Team Leader Sandy Taskas commented “We are delighted to be able to make this donation as we believe the work that the Isle of Wight Playing Fields Association do to promote sports and healthycommunities is of high importance.”

On Wednesday 30th November 2011 8 pupils from Weybourne Infant School joined the store Store Manager to help cut the ribbon and open our new neighbourhood top up Co-operative food store in Heath End, Farnham. The pupils were very excited to be the first customers allowed to walk around the store.

A donation totaling £500 was made to the School as a thank you. Headmistress, Linda Mason, of Weybourne Infant School said the money will be spent on buying lots of new books for the library.

Our first 50 customers also benefited from an ‘opening day offer’ of a free bottle of wine or alternative box of chocolates for our younger customers.

On Wednesday 23rd November 2011 10 pupils from Muscliff Primary School and the Events & Projects Fundraiser from Round Table Children’s Wish Charity, joined colleagues and Store Manager, Josh Glover, from The Southern Co-operative to open our new Co-operative food store in Castle Lane, Bournemouth. A donation totaling £500 was made to the two groups as a thank you.

Co-operative Wickham launches its Community Support Card scheme

Two good causes are set to benefit from the launch of The Southern Co-operative Community Support Card scheme at The Co-operative store in Wickham. The Wickham Scouts and Meon Valley Lions Club are the two groups chosen by a panel of people from the local community prior to the start of the fundraising period.

The Community Support Card scheme works by The Southern Co-operative donating money to the fund every time customers have their special community cards swiped as they shop, and proves very successful in raising money for local groups.

The total target for fundraising over the coming year is £20,000 with whatever amount has been raised once the fundraising period ends will be shared between the two organisations.

A fun community day was held last Saturday and local families, along with George Hollingbery MP, braved the weather to join in the launch celebrations which kicked off with a Morris Dance followed by live music, Zumba and a falconry display with a tasty barbecue provided by the Lions.
